About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Sales Engineer / Proposal Estimator to join our Business Development team. In this role, you will develop cost estimates, create conceptual designs, and support proposal generation in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bridging engineering and customer-facing responsibilities while working in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret customer specifications, drawings, and contracts
- Develop conceptual designs with a focus on manufacturability
- Prepare accurate cost estimates using materials, components, and manufacturing data
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and other internal teams
- Source material and component pricing
- Create CAD models and general assembly drawings (SolidWorks or similar)
- Prepare and deliver tailored proposals and technical solutions
- Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and in-person meetings
- Maintain organized documentation to support project handoff
- Assist engineering team as needed during low proposal activity
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in cost estimating or manufacturing/engineering environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, CNC, welding, assembly)
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred:
- Experience in a customer-facing or business development role
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Knowledge of NQA-1 quality standards
- Experience with steel fabrication and welding processes
Work Environment & Requirements
- Primarily office-based with occasional time in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting
- Occasional overtime or travel may be required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
